September 29, 2023 - Columbus North rode a five-match winning streak into The Orange Pit at Columbus East high school on Thursday, September 28, but the Olympians battled to a 3-1 victory, dropping the Dogs to 14-10 for the season. The Olympians took the first set 25-19, but the Bull Dogs came storming back with a 25-22 decision in set two to even the match at one set apiece. The Dogs built a 23-22 lead in set three and appeared to be poised for set point and the serve when a kill was ruled in by the line judge. However, the head official overruled the call, giving the point, the serve, and the momentum to the Olympians. East went on to win that set 25-23. North didn’t lose composure, however, and battled throughout the fourth set before eventually succumbing 25-21. Statistically, Karen Dutro had 19 kills and four blocks, with Kennedy Horn adding 15 kills and four blocks. Morgan Osborn had 31 digs for the Bull Dogs, and Reese Edwards had 35 setting assists. Columbus East also won both sub-varsity games 2-1. The Bull Dogs will move back into Conference Indiana play on Tuesday (Oct 3) when they host Bloomington South. Freshman and JV matches will begin at 6:00 with varsity to follow. Photo: Bull Dog Elaina Penrod pounds a kill down the line for a point against the Olympians of Columbus East. North fell to East 3-1, dropping their season record to 14-10.
