Boys Varsity Soccer
Junior Alex McGill was recognized as the most valuable player for the 2017 Columbus North boys soccer team on Sunday (Nov. 5) at the team’s season-ending gathering.
McGill totaled 53 points on 22 goals and nine assists in helping the Bull Dogs to a 13-6-1 record that included a runner-up finish in Conference Indiana.
Others cited during the program were senior Andrew Potter, senior Nicholas Stevens, junior Ernesto Perez and junior Zach Friend.
Potter was recognized as winner of the Bull Dog Award, while Stevens was presented the most improved award. Perez was honored with the David Green Spirit of the Game Award and Friend was presented with the ISCA Top Team Award. Perez scored one goal with two assists, while Potter, Friend and Stevens all contributed to a defense that allowed just 28 goals all season.
Earlier, McGill was recognized as a first-team all-District 4 player by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association.
In addition, Friend, McGill, Potter, Stevens, senior Jannis Anderson and junior Massimo Sanchez-Lara
were recognized for their selection as Academic All-State athletes by the ISCA.
Varsity letters were awarded to seniors Finn Anderson, Jannis Anderson, Axel Arroyo, Todd Liggett, Andrew Potter, Jack Robertson and Nicholas Stevens; juniors Zach Friend, Noah Kestler, Alex McGill, Ernesto Perez, Massimo Sanchez-Lara and Fraser Swan; sophomores Andrew Goble, Sotaro Kandea and Graham Keele; and freshmen Jesus Hernandez and Johan Selvaggi.
Recognized as JV players were juniors Omar Bailon-Aliva, David Cesareo, Victor Hernandez, Israel Jaimes, Fabio Navarro, Juan Fernando Perez and Cameron Swan; sophomores Saad Azeem, Jaime Dominguez and Evan Logan; and freshmen Jorge Bailon, Colvin Iorio, David Jaimes, Sam Larken, Ben LaVelle, Bryce Lynn, Ricardo Navarro, Santiago Rueda and Mauricio Brito-Zavala.
