Boys Varsity Soccer
Andy Glover is returning for a second stint as varsity head coach for the Columbus North boys soccer team.
Glover, who guided the Bull Dogs to the 2012 Class 2A state title as well as four Conference Indiana, seven sectional, five regional and three semi-state crowns in a previous nine-year tenure, returns after a two-year departure.
He takes over for Tom Pollert, who stepped down last month after two seasons as the program leader.
“The passion was always there,” Glover told The Republic. “My family needed me, so I needed to step away. That comes first. Life happens. It’s a great opportunity, and it means a lot to me and my family.”
A 1992 Columbus North graduate, Glover became an assistant under program founder David Green in 1997. When Green stepped down after 27 years at the helm following the 2008 season, Glover took over as head coach beginning in 2009.
During Glover’s tenure, his teams posted a 133-37-22 record. The Bull Dogs went 18-3-4 in 2009, 12-6-4 in 2010, 18-3-2 in 2011, 17-1-4 in 2012, 19-1-1 in 2013, 14-4-2 in 2014, 7-7-3 in 2015, 15-6-1 in 2016 and 13-6-1 in 2017. They won conference titles in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014. They won sectionals in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. They won regionals in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016. They won semi-states in 2009, 2011 and 2012.
Columbus North athletic director Jeff Hester is pleased to bring Glover back as coach.
“Andy is a talented coach who runs a great program,” Hester said. “He has a special ability to connect with his players and motivate them to play at a high level.”
During his earlier nine seasons, Glover guided players who were named to some level of all-state by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association on 27 occasions – six first-team selections, seven second-team choices, seven third-team picks and seven honorable mention selections. Glover, himself, was named ISCA State Coach of the Year following the 2012 season. He also was named Indiana Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations following the 2013 season.
Glover was a swimmer was a student at Columbus North and took up soccer while attending Franklin College. He served as the Grizzlies team captain in the 1994 and 1995 seasons, and he was voted all-Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference as a midfielder in 1994.
