Salemme, boys' distance medley relay claim blue ribbons in Bloomington North Indoor Invitational

                BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Adrienne Salemme captured the girls’ pole vault and the boys’ distance medley relay claimed a blue ribbon Wednesday (March 7), highlighting the efforts by the Columbus North track team in the Bloomington North Indoor Invitational.

                Salemme took the top spot in the girls’ pole vault by clearing 9 feet, while the Bull Dogs’ quartet of junior Sam Horak, senior Joel Carroll, senior Evan Porter and senior Charlie Allen prevailed in the distance medley relay in 10 minutes, 51.87 seconds. That race covers 4,000 meters in total and includes legs of 1,200, 400, 800 and 1,600 meters.

                Other CN boys who placed in the top four of their events in the meet at Indiana University included senior Brigham Kleinhenz, tied for second in the pole vault at 13-6; senior Peyton Shelton, fourth in the 3,200 in 10:10.75; and senior Logan Abbott, fourth in the shot put at 46-5½.

                Columbus North girls who finished in the top four included sophomore Sydney Wheeler, tied for third in the pole vault at 8-0; senior Jahna Smiley, tied for third in the high jump at 4-10; freshman Mackenzie Barnett, fourth in the 1,600 in 5;51.26; senior Maura VanDeventer, fourth in the 60 hurdles in 10.44; and freshman Aric Tong, senior Kirsten Ballard, junior Emma Smith and senior Arig Tong, fourth in the 4x800 in 10:32.23.

                The Columbus North track team returns to action at 5:30 p.m. March 21 when it competes at Whiteland in its first outdoor meet of the season.
