Bode doubles twice, homers, drives in eight runs as Columbus North baseball outscores Shelbyville 17-15

                SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Freshman Austin Bode went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBIs on Thursday (April 12), keying the Columbus North baseball team to a 17-15 victory at Shelbyville.

                Bode stroked a three-run double in the top of the sixth inning to break a 14-14 tie as the Bull Dogs improved to 6-2. The liner to right field brought home sophomore Grant Trinkle, senior Tyler Finke and sophomore Adam Chapman who had reached base on a walk, a single and a walk.

                Earlier, Bode doubled in two runs in the first inning and blasted a three-run home run in the fifth inning.

                The Golden Bears (1-4) countered with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning off reliever Devon Rodgers, and CN sophomore Casper Clark came on for a 1-2-3 seventh inning to record a save.

                Clark added to the Columbus North attack by going 3-for-5 with a solo home run, while Finke went 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBIs. Senior Jake Petrusksy went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while junior Parker Maddox went 2-for-5 with three runs.

                Petrusky started on the mount and pitched 4 1/3 innings before Rodgers took over for the next 1 2/3 innings.

                Senior Tyce Taylor went 3-for-4 with two doubles and senior Damon Lux went 3-for-4 for Shelbyville. Layton Stieneker, Eadin Balting, Grant Martin and Logan Miller each added two hits for the Golden Bears.

                At the JV level, Jaeden Carter went 4-for-4 and Brandon Bass drove in three runs to lead Shelbyville to a 14-4 triumph. Freshman Jacob Bailey went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Bull Dogs (5-2).

                The Columbus North varsity returns to action at 6 p.m. Friday (April 13) when it hosts Floyd Central at the Southside Elementary School complex. CN visits Terre Haute North at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 14) and has added a game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (April 14) at Northview.

                The Bull Dogs’ JV is back in action at 5:30 p.m. Monday (April 16) at home against Bedford North Lawrence.
