Smith, Kiel named co MVPs of 2018 Columbus North boys golf
Columbus North juniors Drew Smith and Henry Kiel were honored as co-Most Valuable Players for the Bull Dogs’ 2018 boys golf team at the team awards program on Tuesday (June 5).
Smith has averaged 76.00 strokes while Kiel has a 77.08 average – both in 12 18-hole rounds – for a team that is headed to the Providence Regional on Thursday (June 7). Smith has a best of 70 in a three-team meet against Franklin and Center Grove, while Kiel’s best so far is a 74 in the Providence Invitational and the Greensburg Sectional.
Another receiving a special accolade was sophomore Jackson Kerber, who was presented the team’s Bull Dog Award. Kerber has averaged 84.50 strokes in 10 18-hole rounds with a best of 76 in the Conference Indiana meet. Kerber is the Bull Dog Award recipient for the second consecutive season.
Earlier, Smith, Kiel and Kerber earned first-team all-Conference Indiana accolades by their finish in the conference meet.
Smith and Kiel were recognized as team captains. There were joined as varsity lettermen by Kerber plus juniors Reese Moore and Cameron Ziegler as well as freshmen Jacob Niedbalski and Luke VanDeventer.
JV awards went to junior Conner Williams plus freshmen Michael Gambaiani, Andrew Krueger, Joe Neal and Carter Ward.
