CN's Kiel ties for 48th in state golf meet with a two-round 161

                CARMEL, Ind. – Columbus North junior Henry Kiel posted a final-round 84 on Wednesday (June 13) to tie for 48th place in the IHSAA boys golf State Finals at Prairie View Golf Club.

                Kiel had shot a 77 in the first round for a two-round total of 161. He was the Bull Dogs’ only athlete in the meet after qualifying as an individual in the Providence Regional.

                Fort Wayne Dwenger senior Logan Ryan captured the individual medal after edging Center Grove senior Noah Gillard in a one-hole playoff. Ryan and Gillard each completed 36 holes with a 1-over-par 145. They both then played the 18th hole again, which Ryan parred and Gillard bogeyed.

                Carmel sophomore Clay Stirsman, Zionsville senior Joey Ranieri and Guerin Catholic junior Ty Gingerich each shot a 146 to share third place. Chesterton senior Mitchell Davis, the first-round leader, and Homestead senior Garrett Willis carded 147s to tie for sixth place.

                Carmel claimed the team championship with a 295-306–601. They Greyhounds finished one stroke ahead of Center Grove, which posted a 299-303–602. Zionsville placed third (304-302–606) followed by Evansville North (325-294–619), Penn (312-314–326) and Cathedral (315-316–631) in the 15-school competition.

                Stirsman led Carmel with his 146. He was supported by a 149 from junior Nick Dentino, a 150 from junior Cole Harris and a 157 from sophomore Luke Prall.

                Gillard paced Center Grove with his 145. Completing the Trojans’ top four were senior Sam Jean with a 151, sophomore Alex Heck with a 152 and junior Logan Anderson with a 156.

                Westfield senior Andrew Lewis was selected as winner of the IHSAA’s Fred A. Keesling Award for mental attitude. Lewis shot a 73-75–148 to tie for eighth place and previously helped the Shamrocks to team state titles in 2015 and 2016. He graduated with a 4.09 grade-point average and plans to play golf and study accounting at Purdue.
