Columbus North recent graduate Tyler Finke has been selected to the South team for the 2018 Indiana North-South All-Star baseball series.
The three-game series will be played on July 21-22 at Four Winds Field in South Bend, home of the Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on July 21. They will follow with a single game played with wooden bats only on July 22.
Finke, a shortstop, hit .380 with two doubles, two triples, 32 runs, 13 RBIs and a school-record 43 stolen bases in leading the Bull Dogs to an 18-10 record as a senior. For his career, Finke totaled a school record 109 stolen bases. He also finished second on school charts with 127 hits, 50 walks and 108 runs. In addition, he has the fourth best career batting average in CN history at .403.
Finke plans to play baseball at Snead State Community College in Alabama in 2018-19. Earlier, he was chosen all-District G by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association and first-team all-Conference Indiana. He also was chosen all-conference as a junior when he hit .394 with six doubles, 34 runs and 38 stolen bases.
Cooper Trinkle and Kevin Thompson, 2017 Columbus North graduates, played in the 2017 All-Star series at Ball State University in Muncie.
