Finke voted Class 4A honorable mention all-state in baseball

                Columbus North recent graduate Tyler Finke has been named 2018 Class 4A honorable mention all-state by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association.

                Finke, a shortstop, hit .380 with two doubles, two triples, 32 runs, 13 RBIs and a school-record 43 stolen bases in leading the Bull Dogs to an 18-10 record as a senior. For his career, Finke totaled a school record 109 stolen bases. He also finished second on school charts with 127 hits, 50 walks and 108 runs. In addition, he has the fourth best career batting average in CN history at .403.

                Finke plans to play baseball at Snead State Community College in Alabama in 2018-19. Earlier, Finke was chosen to play for the South team on July 21-22 in the Indiana North-South All-Star Baseball Series in South Bend. He also was selected all-District G by the IHSBCA and first-team all-Conference Indiana.

                Finke is the Bull Dogs’ 10th all-state honoree over the past seven seasons.

                In 2012, pitcher Daniel Ayers was chosen honorable mention all-state. In 2013, Ayers was first-team all-state and shortstop Devin Mann was chosen honorable mention all-state. In 2014, Mann again was honorable mention all-state. In 2015, Mann was voted first-team all-state and first baseman Bryce McDaniel was honorable mention all-state. In 2016, infielder Cooper Trinkle was first-team all-state. In 2017, Trinkle again was first-team all-state and pitcher-first baseman Kevin Thompson was honorable mention all-state.

                In addition to players chosen to all-state teams by class, the following five players were designated first-team all-state because they were picked in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft – Nick Schnell  of Roncalli, Jack Perkins of Kokomo, Bradley Brehmer of Decatur Central, Jared Poland of Cathedral) and Timmy Borden of Providence.

                Catcher: x-Hayden Jones, Carroll (Fort Wayne).

                First Baseman: Ethan English, Jeffersonville.

                Second Baseman: Cam Dennie, Plymouth.

                Third Baseman: Matt Wolff, Fishers.

                Shortstop: Craig Yoho, Fishers.

                Outfielders: xx-Ryan Robison, New Albany; Ian McCutcheon, Huntington North; Damon Lux, Shelbyville.
