'Blue & White Day' set for Saturday, Aug. 4 by Columbus North athletics

“Blue & White Day” has been set for Saturday, Aug. 4 by Columbus North athletics.

The event is a terrific opportunity to get reacquainted as the 2018-19 academic year begins and the Bull Dogs’ fall sports teams get going. Admission to “Blue & White Day” is free.

A meeting for parents of all CNHS fall sports athletes is set for 5 p.m. in Gym 1. The meeting should last about 45 minutes. A tailgate dinner is available for a modest cost from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Individual team meetings, at the discretion of team coaches, will be from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at rooms to be designated.

Boys soccer and girls soccer will have a demonstration from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Max Andress Field. Volleyball will hold a scrimmage in Gym 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tom Pollert takes over as CN’s boys soccer coach. Derek Stewart returns as the Bull Dogs’ girls soccer coach. Caitlin Greiner is set to begin her seventh season as the Columbus North volleyball coach.

Football, led by coach Tim Bless, takes the field for warm-ups for a scrimmage at 7 p.m. The cheerleaders are introduced at 7:15 p.m., and the football scrimmage begins at 7:30 p.m.

The cross country teams, under second-year boys coach Danny Fisher and new girls coach Rick Sluder, have a mile run at halftime of the football scrimmage at about 8 p.m.

Other sports in action during the fall season are boys tennis, guided by veteran coach Kendal Hammel, and girls golf, directed by Scott Seavers. Girls golf opens its season on Monday (July 30) in the Bloomington South Invitational.

Columbus North all-sports passes for the 2018-19 school year will be available on "Blue & White Day" beginning at 6 p.m. Prices for all-sports passes are $90 for an individual adult, $50 for a student or $50 for a senior citizen (62 and older). There also is an all-sports family pass (good for two adults, two students) for $200 (additional $50 for each person beyond four in an immediate family unit).
