Sophomore Nathaly Munnicha was recognized as MVP of the 2018 Columbus North girls’ golf team at the squad’s season-ending gathering Thursday (Oct. 25).
The MVP honor was presented to Munnicha after she averaged 75.67 strokes for nine 18-hole rounds, 37.33 strokes in nine nine-hole rounds and placed 22nd individually at the 2018 IHSAA State Finals. She was named all-state at the end of the season by the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association.
During the season, Munnicha was individual medalist in two 18-hole events, posting a 3-under-par 69 in the Zionsville Invitational and a 75 in the Greensburg Sectional. She also was medalist in six of the nine-hole competitions. Her 69 was one stroke off the school record of 68 and the 3-under score was one shy of a school record 4-under par in an 18-hole event, both by Taylor Gohn in the Center Grove Invitational in 2008.
Senior Alex Munnicha was named winner of the team’s Bull Dog Award. She averaged 79.22 strokes in 18-hole rounds and 39.44 in nine-hole rounds. Alex Munnicha was medalist in two nine-hole matches, include a school-record-tying 32 against Southport at Southern Dunes. She placed 29th individually in the state meet.
Alex Munnicha was captain for the Bull Dogs, who posted an 11-0 mark in two- and three-team meets as well as placing seventh in the State Finals. CN also won the Conference Indiana championship, the Greensburg Sectional and the Lapel Regional. In addition, the Bull Dogs were second in the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, third in the Roncalli Invitational and fourth in the Zionsville Invitational.
At the end of the season, Nathaly Munnicha was chosen to the all-state team by the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association. Also, Alex Munnicha was picked to the Academic All-State team as selected by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.
During the season, junior Annie Anderson, Alex Munnicha, Nathaly Munnicha, sophomore Yestika Nischol and freshman Ella Wilks earned spots as first-team all-Conference Indiana players. Anderson was the medalist in that event with a 76.
Nathaly Munnicha was honored as the player with the top grade-point average, and Anderson is to be the team captain for the 2019 season.
Seven athletes were awarded varsity letters. They included senior Alex Munnicha; junior Annie Anderson; sophomores Nathaly Munnicha and Yestika Nischol; and freshmen Gwen Anderson, Macy Euler and Ella Wilks.
Those recognized as JV team members were freshmen Erica Bishop, Tiffany Fu and Paige Sherlock.
