Lang recognized as MVP of 2018 Columbus North girls soccer

                Freshman Jenna Lang was honored as the most valuable player for the 2018 Columbus North girls’ soccer team on Monday (Oct. 29) at the team’s season-ending gathering.

                Lang, a midfielder, totaled 43 points on 19 goals and five assists in leading the Bull Dogs to a 11-5-0 season that included a second-place finish in Conference Indiana. Lang also was recognized for being voted first-team all-District 4 by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association.

                Others cited during the program were senior Tanner Johnson, junior Caroline Hollenkamp, senior Elise Whitley, senior Morgan Blankenhorn and freshman Rion Stevens.

                Johnson was recognized as winner of the Bull Dog Award, while Hollenkamp was presented the Offensive Player of the Year award. Whitley was cited as the Defensive Player of the Year, while Blankenhorn was honored as the team’s most improved player and presented the ISCA Top Team Player Award. Stevens was cited as MVP of the JV team.

                Johnson, a forward, amassed 28 points on 13 goals and two assists despite playing only nine games because of injury. Hollenkamp, a midfielder, provided 15 points on six goals and three assists. Whitley, a defender, led a back line that allowed just 17 goals all season. Blankenhorn, also a defender, was another key to the Bull Dogs’ strong back line.

                Also, Johnson, Hollenkamp, Whitley, junior Kaylyn Bates, junior Alayne Davis, junior Hannah Grimes, junior Abigail Hovis, senior Rose Sardina and junior Riley Stevens were recognized as ISCA Academic All-State players. Those receiving Academic All-State honors must be a junior or senior and carry a 3.7 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale.

                Varsity letters were awarded to seniors Morgan Blankenhorn, Baleigh Drum, Larah Henderson, Ariana Ison, Tanner Johnson, Rose Sardina and Elise Whitley; juniors Kaylyn Bates, Alayne Davis, Hannah Grimes, Caroline Hollenkamp, Abigail Hovis and Riley Stevens; sophomores Naomy Argueta Ventura, Samantha Crossman, Kate Kolhouse, Laney Moore, Erin Rawlins and Lauryn Whitley; and freshmen Nitya Chenanda, K.J. Ely, Jenna Lang, Claire Lyvers, Rion Stevens and Layla Terry.

                Recognized as JV players were junior Dani Aguilar, Emilee Figueroa, Marely Mychel Olguin, Hallie Schwartzkopf and Ayame Tsutsui; sophomores Helena Ho, Denise Drieux Perez and Lulu Yang; and freshmen Emma Bennett, Annagail Fields, Rosie Figueroa and Ella Furber.
