Senior Kevin Lin was recognized as MVP of the 2018 Columbus North boys’ tennis team at the squad’s season-ending program on Tuesday (Nov. 6).
Lin compiled a 15-6 record at No. 1 singles en route to earning first-team all-Conference Indiana, first-team all-District 8 and second-team all-state accolades. Lin also was selected first-team Academic All-State. His efforts helped the Bull Dogs to a 14-4 dual match record for a squad that reached the quarterfinal round of the IHSAA team State Finals.
Lin, who was honored as team MVP for the third consecutive season, also was named winner of the Bull Dog Award.
Junior Bhavey Jain was named winner of the team’s Sportsmanship and Most Improved awards. Jain finished with a 13-8 record at No. 2 singles. He also was honored as first-team all-district and honorable mention all-state.
Junior Adam Saad and freshman Nathan Lin, the No. 1 doubles tandem, were honored as first-team all-conference, first-team all-district and second-team all-state. They finished 18-4 as a tandem and reached the quarterfinal round of the IHSAA individual State Finals in doubles.
Junior Joey Zhao and freshman Matthew Liu, the No. 2 doubles duo, were cited as first-team all-district and honorable mention all-state. They finished 12-0 as a duo, and Liu was 17-3 at No. 2 doubles with various partners. Zhao, 17-3 overall when including a 5-3 mark at No. 3 singles, also was voted honorable mention all-conference.
Others recognized were Liu, Kevin Lin, sophomore Luke Enneking, freshman Trey Nebergall, sophomore Mehul Dhillon and sophomore Joseph Kloepfer as “Bull Dog Pride” winners. Also, Saad, junior Will King, sophomore Jacob Shinkle, senior Ben Larson and sophomore Bennett Carson were cited as “Bull Dog Support” players.
Kevin Lin and Saad were honored as team captains, and they were among 11 athletes who received varsity letters. Other lettermen were seniors Dallin Anderson and Ben Larson; juniors Bhavey Jain, Will King, Atharva Kute, Eamon Ma and Joey Zhao; and freshmen Nathan Lin and Matthew Liu.
Those recognized as JV team members were juniors Tyler Allen and David Gutierrez; sophomores Aditya Agrawal, Luke Akhalaya, Bennett Carson, Tirth Desai, Mehul Dhillon, Luke Enneking, Andres Garcia, Kyle Johnson, Shawn Joseph, Joseph Kloepfer and Jacob Shinkle; and freshmen Noah Abfall, Matei Cloteaux, Sam King, Trey Nebergall, Rishi Rao, Eric Stavnheim, Charlie Terry and Jiaxuan Wang.
