Schiavello surges in overtime as Columbus North rallies past Shelbyville 82-76 in boys basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Nicholas Schiavello scored 10 of his team-high 23 points in overtime Friday night (Nov. 30), lifting the Columbus North boys basketball team to an 82-76 triumph over Shelbyville in Memorial Gym.

                Sophomore Blake Barker added 22 points and sophomore Reese Harmon contributed 15 points for the Bull Dogs (2-1), who rallied from a nine-point deficit with about three minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

                Senior Trenton Kelley chipped in 10 points, including a game-tying free throw in the waning seconds of regulation. Senior Patrick McKinley provided seven points, while senior Cameron Ziegler netted three points and senior Riley Ables had two points.

                Senior Zach Kuhn poured in a game-high 28 points, and he became the Golden Bears’ all-time leading scorer during the game. Kuhn finished the game with 1,426 career points, passing the mark of 1,410 set by Harry Larrabee in 1970.

                Senior Josh Williams added 23 points while junior Luke Asher netted 14 points as Shelbyville fell to 2-1.

                Columbus North captured both sub-varsity games.

                In the JV game, junior Will King scored 12 points and the Bull Dogs used a big second-half burst to prevail 41-21. Sophomore Jakub Trusina added eight points and sophomore Max Wilson had six points for CN (3-0), which used a 30-10 advantage in the second half to turn a close game into a runaway. Sophomore Matthew Bunton paced the Golden Bears with eight points.

                In the freshman game, Will Baker sank five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 18 points as the Bull Dogs claimed a 48-45 decision. Qwenton Bolden chipped in nine points and Sam King had eight points as Columbus North improved to 3-1. Jacob Chapman led Shelbyville with 13 points.

                Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 1) when it hosts Martinsville in a tripleheader. JV and freshman games begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV at about 7:30 p.m.\
