Barker, Bull Dogs run past Jennings County 61-38 in boys basketball

                NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Sophomore Blake Barker scored 21 points to lead three players in double figures Saturday night (Jan. 5), keying the Columbus North boys basketball team to a 61-38 victory at Jennings County.

                Junior Nicholas Schiavello contributed 16 points while sophomore Reese Harmon chipped in 12 points for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 9-4 for the season. Senior Trenton Kelley added five points, and senior Patrick McKInley had three points for CN.

                Senior Josh Pettit scored 12 points to lead the host Panthers (5-7).

                Barker scored seven points and Schiavello provided six points as Columbus North took a 19-14 lead in the first quarter. Barker scored seven points and Schiavello had four points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs pushed their edge to 35-24 at intermission.

                Harmon scored six points while Kelley and Schiavello netted two points apiece as CN led 45-33 at the third stop. Barker scored seven points and Schiavello tallied four points in the final period as the visitors closed out the decision.

                Columbus North won both sub-varsity contests.

                At the JV level, sophomore Jakub Trusina scored 17 points and the Bull Dogs used a 15-0 third-quarter advantage to claim a 48-46 triumph. Junior Cameron Wischmeyer added nine points and junior Will King had seven points as CN improved to 7-3. Joe Kelley paced Jennings County with 21 points.

                In the freshman game, Rhett Harmon sank three 3-pointers en route to a team-high 13 points as the Bull Dogs beat the Panthers 45-33. Keegan Castetter chipped in eight points, while Sam King had six points for CN (7-4). Austin Martin scored a game-high 17 points for Jennings County.

                Columbus North returns to action on Friday (Jan. 11) when it hosts Mooresville in a tripleheader. JV and freshman games start at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV at about 7:30 p.m.

                The CN girls freshman team also will play Mooresville at about 7:30 p.m. in Gym 2.
