Columbus North senior Nadia Lomax was named MVP of the Bull Dogs’ 2018-19 girls’ basketball team at the team awards program Tuesday evening (March 5).
Lomax, a four-year varsity letter winner, averaged 9.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals while leading the team to an 18-8 record that included a runner-up finish in Conference Indiana at 4-1. Lomax also shot 39.4 percent from the field, including 42.4 percent from 3-point range, and a team-best 76.4 percent on free throws.
Lomax was one of six players to receive a special presentation in the season-ending gathering held in the CN cafeteria. Junior Annie Anderson, sophomore Alexa McKinley, sophomore Madison White, junior Tessa Lomax and sophomore Emily Herndon also were recipients of special awards for the Bull Dogs’ squad.
Anderson was named winner of the Bull Dog Award, while McKinley was the recipient of the Outstanding Participant Award. White was voted winner of the Most Improved Award, and Tessa Lomax was the recipient of the Spirit Award.
Herndon was honored as the winner of the Martha Kalb Memorial Award, which goes to a JV player who displays characteristics of determination, teamwork, persistence and heart.
Anderson averaged 5.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals. McKinley posted team bests of 10.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals as well as 3.7 rebounds.
White contributed 3.6 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.8 steals, while Tessa Lomax provided 5.6 points, a team-high 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.7 blocks while as well as positive energy to her teammates on the floor and in the locker room.
Herndon averaged 8.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals in helping the Bull Dogs’ JV squad post an 18-1 record.
The Columbus North freshman team finished its season with a 10-5 record. Collectively, the CN teams went 46-14.
Two CN players have been honored with previous awards – Nadia Lomax as all-District 3 by the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association and McKinley as Underclass honorable mention All-State by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
Other awards such as all-Conference Indiana, IBCA Academic All-State and all-state from various other groups have yet to be announced.
