Salemme ties for 13th place, Morlok finishes 21st in IHSAA girls track State Finals

                BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Adrienne Salemme tied for 13th place in the pole vault and junior Olivia Morlok finished 21st in the 3,200-meter run on Saturday (June 1) in the IHSAA girls track and field State Finals.

                Salemme cleared 11 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault, while Morlok was timed in 11:27.64 in her race as the only two Bull Dogs in the state-level competition.

                North Central, paced by freshman standout Ramiah Elliot, won the team title with 75 points. The Panthers claimed the program’s third state championship, their first since 1987 and joined the NC boys’ track team as 2019 team state champs.

                Warren Central placed second with 52 points followed by Hamilton Southeastern with 48, West Lafayette with 42 and Zionsville with 30.

                Elliot took home a total of four state titles before helping to hoist the team trophy at the end of the night. She was a member of the champion 4x400-meter that prevailed in a record time of 3:43.99 and the 4x100 unit that won in 45.77. Elliot also claimed individual titles in the 200- and 400-meter dashes with respective times of 23.67 and 53.30.

                Chanler Robinson added to the NC haul by taking first in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.25. Senior Alyssa-Simone Robinson and juniors Skylynn Blue-Williams and Jadeyn Maddox played a huge role to help secure the relay championships.

                The rest of the events were highlighted with another state meet record and a series of repeat champions.

                Pike senior Elizabeth Stanhope ended her career by becoming the state record holder in the 800, crossing the tape in 2:06.62 to eclipse the previous record set of 2:07.91 by Brittany Neeley of Eastern (Greentown) in 2013.

                Hamilton Southeastern senior Kennedy Drish cleared 12-9 to win the pole vault for the third consecutive year, while Noblesville senior Shelby Tyler claimed the high jump for the third straight year at 5-9.

                Warren Central’s Prommyse Hoosier repeated as long jump champion with a leap of 19-9 ¾, while the West Lafayette 4x800 unit of Mary Schultz, Emma Tate, Alli Steffey, Ellie Tate took a second straight crown in 9:03.37.

                Other event champions were:

                >> Brebeuf Jesuit senior Semira Killebrew in the 100 (11.63).

                >> Huntington North freshman Addison Wiley in the 1,600 (4:46.93).

                >> Zionsville senior Ella Robinson in the 300 hurdles (42.05).

                >> Carroll (Fort Wayne) senior Meagan Hathaway in the 3,200 (10:30.84).

                >> Rensselaer Central junior Hannah Redlin in the discus (143-3).

                >> Shenandoah sophomore Erikka Hill in the shot put (44-2).

                West Lafayette senior Emma Tate was named winner of the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award. Tate was part of the winning 4x800 relay and placed sixth in the open 1,600 in 5:00.05. She plans to attend Purdue University to study biology and will run cross country and track for the Boilermakers.

                By sweeping both boys and girls titles this year, North Central became the fifth school to do so and first since Warren Central did so in 2007.
