Columbus North senior Henry Kiel was honored as Most Valuable Player for the Bull Dogs’ 2019 boys golf team at the team awards program on Thursday (June 13).
Kiel averaged 74.00 strokes in 15 18-hole rounds while leading Columbus North to a fifth-place finish in the IHSAA State Finals. At state, Kiel shot a 77-73 – 150 to tie for 15th place individually. His best round was a 69 in the Greensburg Sectional, where he was medalist.
Another receiving a special accolade was freshman Luke Schneider, who was presented the team’s Bull Dog Award. Schneider averaged 81.37 strokes in 16 18-hole rounds. His best round was a 72 in the Hall of Fame Invitational in April.
Earlier, Kiel, Schneider and senior Drew Smith earned first-team all-Conference Indiana accolades for their finish in the conference meet. Kiel was medalist in the CI meet with a 71. Senior Jackson Kerber was honorable mention all-conference.
Kerber was recognized as the team captain.
Varsity lettermen were seniors Jackson Kerber, Henry Kiel, Reese Moore, Drew Smith, Conner Williams and Cameron Ziegler; sophomores Michael Gambaiani, Jacob Niedbalski and Luke VanDeventer; and freshman Luke Schneider.
JV awards went to sophomores Andrew Krueger and Carter Ward; and freshmen Aditya Banerjee, Damon Gregory and Chase Martoccia.
