Collier commits to Central Michigan for football

Columbus North rising senior Mitchel Collier announced Tuesday (June 25) that he has committed to Central Michigan University for football.

Collier, a 6-2, 220-pound athlete, caught 10 passes for 94 yards as a tight end while helping the Bull Dogs to an 8-2 record in 2018. He also was an efficient blocker who helped the CN offense total 358.3 yards per game and 32.0 points per game.

Defensively, Collier played defensive end and totaled 44 tackles with two tackles for loss and three sacks as a junior.

He is expected to sign a national letter of intent with CMU in December and he will join the Chippewas' program for the 2020 season. He will join a Central Michigan program that is coached by Jim McElwain. Central Michigan is part of the Mid-American Conference and located in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Collier made this statement on his Twitter account.

“To start with, I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to play this game. I would also like to thank my parents for giving me every opportunity to play at the next level and always being there for me. Thank to all the coaches and teammates who have pushed me to be the best player possible. Thanks to all the coaches who have recruited me through this process.

“With that being said, I’m excited to say that I’m committing to Central Michigan University.”
