Columbus North rising junior Kyler McIntosh has committed to Alabama State for baseball.
The infielder-pitcher hit .277 with 23 runs, five doubles, 11 RBIs and two stolen bases in helping the Bull Dogs to a 22-8 record and Conference Indiana championship as a sophomore. As a pitcher, he posted a 1-1 record with 11 strikeouts, one walk and a 2.27 earned-run average in 12.1 innings.
McIntosh’s commitment will have him join the Hornets program for the 2021-22 school year. He will graduate from Columbus North in 2021, giving him two more seasons with the Bull Dogs.
Alabama State baseball went 28-26 in 2019. The school is located in Montgomery and is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. McIntosh’s brother, Hunter, a 2012 Columbus North graduate, also played baseball at Alabama State from 2013 through 2016.
"I’ve been around Alabama State a lot with my brother going there, so I’m really close with the coaches there already," McIntosh told The Republic. "I love it down there just because how much I went down there, so I’ve gotten used to it. They gave me a good offer as a two-way position player and a pitcher, so it was hard to turn down."
McIntosh is eager to keep climbing the competitive ladder.
"It’s always been a dream to go to the next level and to play Division I," he told the newspaper.
Two other returning Columbus North players also have made college commitments. Rising senior Casper Clark, a pitcher, has announced plans to attend Indiana University. Rising senior Grant Trinkle, an outfielder, has decided to attend the University of Kentucky. Both players have one more season with Columbus North and will graduate in 2020.
