COLUMBUS, Ind. – Travon Wade ran for two touchdowns and Tyler Blythe added a 62-yard punt return for a score on Saturday (Oct. 5), leading the Columbus North freshman football team to a 36-22 victory over Bloomington South at Max Andress Field.
Both of Wade’s touchdowns came in the first quarter, the first covering 62 yards and the second covering 27 yards as the Bull Dogs built a 14-0 advantage en route to improving their season record to 3-4.
The Panthers reached the scoreboard when Ty Tschetter returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter. CN countered with Blake Burton’s 2-yard TD, but Bloomington South responded with Zach David’s 15-yard scoring pass to Braydon Stephens on the last play of the half.
Blythe’s long punt return with 3:22 to go on the third quarter gave the Bull Dogs some breathing room, and Zac Horn connected with Ian Calvert on a 25-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to extend the margin.
The Panthers closed the scoring with a David 5-yard touchdown run.
CN’s Liam Phillips thwarted a Bloomington South threat with an interception in the end zone with 1:11 to go in the first quarter.
The Columbus North freshman team returns to action at 11:30 a.m. next Saturday (Oct. 12) when they host Franklin at Max Andress Field. The freshman game will follow the Columbus North-Bloomington North JV game that begins at 10 a.m.
