The Columbus North volleyball team will face Bloomington South in a first-round match of Class 4A Sectional 14 at Bloomington North, according to pairings announced Sunday (Oct. 6) by the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
The match is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Bloomington North, site for all matches in the seven-team competition.
The opening match between host Bloomington North (15-8) and East Central (18-7) is set for Tuesday, Oct. 15. The match between Columbus North (7-13) and Bloomington South (15-9) match begins the card on Oct. 17. A match between Martinsville (14-10) and Bedford North Lawrence (4-18) will follow on Oct. 17.
Columbus East (13-8) drew a bye, and the Olympians will face the Bloomington North-East Central winner in the first semifinal match on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Thursday winners will meet in the second semifinal on Saturday. The semifinal winners will return at 7 p.m. Saturday for the sectional championship.
Columbus North is seeking its first sectional title, while defending champion Bloomington South is seeking its 16th sectional crown. Columbus East goes after its 25th sectional title, while Martinsville chases its 24th sectional crown.
Bloomington North seeks its 14th sectional title, while East Central is after its 12th sectional trophy and Bedford North Lawrence seeks its second sectional crown.
The sectional champion qualifies for the Bloomington North Regional on Oct. 26, where it will face the winner of the Franklin Sectional in the second semifinal. Sectional winners from Floyd Central and Jasper will play in the first semifinal. The regional final will be later Oct. 26.
The regional winner advances to a one-match semi-state on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Columbus East or Jasper.
The semi-state champion qualifies for the one-match Class 4A state championship at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at Ball State’s Worthen Arena in Muncie.
Sectional admission is $6 per session or $10 for an all-session pass.
