FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. – Sophomore Luke Schneider, senior Sotaro Kaneda and senior Graham Keele each scored Monday evening (Oct. 7), keying the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Jennings County in the first round of the Floyd Central Sectional.
Sophomore Jesse Williams, sophomore Will Holliday and senior Andrew Goble each recorded assists as the Bull Dogs improved to 7-9-1. Junior Colvin Iorio, junior Jared Marquez and freshman Lukas Iorio combined for the shutout in goal for CN.
The Panthers ended their season at 1-14-1.
Schneider scored the first goal in the game’s 31st minute, finishing a rebound opportunity after Williams had dribbled into the left side of the penalty area and ripped a shot that went off a defender.
CN made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute when Holliday found Kaneda on a pass from midfield. Kaneda followed by striking an unchallenged shot from about 27 yards away.
Keele ended any doubt in the 60th minute when he beat the Jennings County goalkeeper from about 8 yards away. Goble created the opportunity, and Keele put the ball into the net.
Colvin Iorio made one save while playing 64 minutes. Marquez played 11 minutes, and Lukas Iorio played five minutes.
For the game, the Bull Dogs totaled 38 shots and 21 shots on goal. The Panthers countered with four shots and one shot on goal.
Columbus North returns to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 9) when it faces host Floyd Central (6-8-2) in the first semifinal. New Albany (8-3-5) meets Jeffersonville (8-5-3) and Seymour (3-9-4) plays fifth-ranked Columbus East in (12-0-3) other first-round games on Tuesday (Oct. 8). The Tuesday winners return for the second semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The semifinal winners will play for the sectional championship at 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 12).
