McKinley, Bull Dogs top Jennings County 55-37 in girls basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Alexa McKinley scored 17 points to lead three players in double figures Thursday evening (Jan. 9), keying the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 55-37 victory over Jennings County in Memorial Gym.

                Senior Sierra Norman chipped in 13 points and senior Annie Anderson added 11 points for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 11-6 for the season. Junior Madison White contributed five points, while sophomore Kylah Lawson tallied four points.

                Sophomore Lily Ernstes scored 11 points and junior Addyson Kent netted nine points to pace the Panthers (5-10).

                Norman scored seven points and Anderson added six points in the first quarter as Columbus North jumped to a 23-11 lead. Sophomore Megan Schuler countered with all seven of her points for Jennings County in the second quarter as the visitors closed to within 29-23 at intermission.

                Norman scored six points and McKinley tallied five points in the third quarter as the Bull Dogs extended their advantage to 48-33 at the third stop. McKinley sank 5-of-6 free throws and Anderson made 2-of-2 freebies in the fourth quarter as CN closed out the decision.

                Columbus North also prevailed in both sub-varsity contests.

                In the JV game, freshman Emma Long scored 14 points to propel the Bull Dogs to a 64-23 triumph. Junior Kanon Matsuno and sophomore Lucy Norman each added 10 points, while sophomore Reagan Ables tallied nine points and freshman Rylie Boezeman had seven points for CN (13-1). Schuler led Jennings County with 12 points.

                At the freshman level, Moana Steele dropped in 11 points and Karissa Bevis provided eight points to lead Columbus North to a 27-14 decision. Amelia Thompson chipped in four points, while Emma Gray and Milahya Anderson each had two points for the Bull Dogs (8-3). Abby McDonald paced the Panthers with four points.

                Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 11) when it hosts Bloomington South in a Conference Indiana encounter. JV and freshman games each begin at 1 p.m. The varsity follows the JV at about 2:30 p.m.
