Quick start helps Columbus North outscore Jennings County 77-57 in boys basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Blake Barker poured in a game-high 25 points Saturday evening (Jan. 11), leading the Columbus North boys basketball team to a 77-57 victory over Jennings County in Memorial Gym.

                Senior Nicholas Schiavello contributed 15 points and junior Reese Harmon netted 11 points for the Bull Dogs, who improved 11-2 for the season. Senior Casper Clark provided 10 points, while freshman Cooper Horn tallied eight points and junior Jakub Trusina had five points for CN.

                Barker’s big game pushed his total to 919 career points, 81 shy of the 1,000-point milestone.

                Barker scored 10 points while Schiavello netted seven points and Harmon had six points in the first quarter as Columbus North jumped to a 27-7 advantage. Barker tallied six points while Schiavello and Harmon each had five points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs led 43-25 at intermission.

                Barker scored nine points and Trusina netted five points in the third quarter as CN pushed its edge to 61-39 at the third stop. Horn scored six points and Clark had four points in the fourth quarter as the Bull Dogs closed out the contest.

                Columbus North also prevailed in both sub-varsity games.

                At the JV level, sophomore Sam King scored nine points and junior Max Wilson netted eight points to lift the Bull Dogs to a 40-35 triumph. Junior Trevor Wright and sophomore Carson Dibble each chipped in six points for CN (10-0). Freshman Owen Law sank four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 18 points for the Panthers.

                In the freshman game, Tyler Blythe scored 12 points and Ty Ferguson chipped in 11 points as Columbus North claimed a 47-30 decision. Leon Brown added eight points and Damon Edwards had six points for the Bull Dogs (13-0). Skyler Lewis dropped in a game-high 17 points for Jennings County.

                Columbus North returns to action on Friday (Jan. 17) when it visits Mooresville for a quadruple-header. JV and freshman team games begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV at about 7:30 p.m. The fourth contest is the Columbus North freshman girls facing the Mooresville freshman girls at about 7:30 p.m., after the boys’ freshman game.
