An Anderson 3-pointer made it 44-35 with 4:22 to go in regulation, but a Dougherty jumper, a Dougherty 3-pointer and two Greiwe free throws allowed Columbus East to close to 44-42 with 2:20 left. Senior Whitley Rankin followed with a pair of 3-pointers, the second tying the game at 48.
A Lawson basket and three McKinley free throws sandwiched two Greiwe free throws to give the Bull Dogs a 53-50 edge late in regulation. But Dougherty drew a foul on a 3-point shot, hitting the first free throw and missing the latter two. Stahl rebounded the second missed and scored on a put-back as time expired in regulation to force overtime.
In the extra session, a Greiwe basket and Stahl free throws allowed the Olympians a five-point lead. McKinley countered with two free throws and two baskets while Rankin and East sophomore Albany Speer each sank one free throw to cut East’s lead to 61-60, but Stahl made one of two free throws to account for the final margin.
