Columbus North senior Tessa Lomax has been named a winner of a Marion Crawley Scholarship by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, it was announced Monday (May 18).
Lomax will receive a $500 stipend to go toward her college fees after meeting criteria for consideration and being nominated by Bull Dogs coach Pat McKee and CNHS principal David Clark. Lomax is one of nine players or student managers to receive an IBCA Crawley Scholarship in the Class of 2020.
On the floor, Lomax was a four-year varsity letter winner and three-year starter who helped Columbus North to a 72-32 record with two Conference Indiana championships plus one sectional and one regional crown. She averaged 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 95 career games, and she stands eighth on the Bull Dogs’ all-time list with 519 rebounds. She was voted first-team all-Conference Indiana as a sophomore and junior.
Off the floor, Lomax has been a strong student who holds a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average through seven semesters. She previously was named a CI Scholar-Athlete, IBCA honorable mention Academic All-State and ICGSA honorable mention Academic All-State.
Lomax plans to attend Indiana State University, the same school where her sister Nadia attends. Nadia recently completed her freshman year with a 4.0 GPA. Older sister Erika is an ISU graduate, while older sister Mikala attended the University of Indianapolis and IUPUI.
The scholarship is awarded in the name of the late Marion Crawley, who was the IBCA’s first executive director after a coaching career where his teams won four boys basketball state championships – two with the Washington Hatchets and two with the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos.
Tessa Lomax is the seventh girls basketball player from Columbus North to receive a Crawley Scholarship over the past 10 seasons. Previous winners in that span were Jocelyn Hamilton in 2011, Becca Brougher in 2012, Hanna Ballard in 2013, Emmy Schabel in 2014 and Debie Gedeon and Sheyanne Street in 2015.
