Columbus North rising senior Christopher Lee was recognized as an All-American in two events by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.
Lee placed 58th nationally with a time of 20.61 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, his winning performance in the Columbus North Sectional. He was 59th nationally with a mark of 49.57 with his time while placing ninth in the 100 backstroke at the IHSAA State Finals.
“It was really exhilarating when I saw that,” Lee told The Republic. “It was one of my goals since I was a sophomore – to be an All-American. I’m really proud of the work I’ve been doing, and I’m really proud to have such good role models.”
He also placed 10th at state in the 50 free with a time of 20.78.
Lee’s top time in each event set school records for the two events. He also was recognized as MVP of the 2019-2020 boys swimming team and was honored as The Republic’s Boys Swimmer of the Year.
The NISCA honors boys and girls with the top 100 times in each of the 11 swimming events that made a time standard.
