COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Jenna Lang scored a goal and added an assist on Saturday (Sept. 12), leading the Class 3A No. 13 Columbus North girls soccer team to a 2-0 upset of Class 3A No. 11 Homestead at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Lang scored from just inside the 18 on the right side with 36:36 showing in the first half as the Bull Dogs improved to 8-1-0 for the season. Senior Lauryn Whitley was credited with the assist on the goal.
Sophomore Lauren Barker doubled the CN advantage with 11:43 remaining in the game, finishing an opportunity that Lang began. Barker’s goal came from just outside the 18 on the left side.
Sophomore Mallory Gilley played the full 80 minutes in goal, making six saves in recording the shutout.
The visiting Spartans fell to 5-2-0.
Lang’s goal gave her 22 for the season and 73 for her career. Whitley’s assist made 12 for the season and 41 for her career.
At the JV level, the visiting Spartans claimed a 2-0 triumph. The Bull Dogs’ JV dropped to 6-3-0.
Columbus North returns to action on Monday (Sept. 14) when it visits Bloomington North for a Conference Indiana encounter. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m. The Bull Dogs follow by hosting Terre Haute North next Saturday (Sept. 19) at Richard Wigh Complex.
