BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Alexa McKinley scored a pair of second-half goals on Monday evening (Sept. 14) to spark the Columbus North girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Bloomington North.
Junior Jenna Lang also scored for the Class 3A No. 11 Bull Dogs, who improved to 9-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in Conference Indiana matches. Senior Laney Moore provided assists on both of McKinley’s goals.
Junior Kena Hagerty scored for the host Cougars, who fell to 4-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
Sophomore Mallory Gilley played all 80 minutes in the nets for Columbus North. She made one save while facing two shots on goal.
McKinley snapped a scoreless deadlock in the 52nd minute when she tapped in a rebound of a Moore shot. McKinley made it 2-0 in the 57th minute, converting an opportunity created by a Moore crossing pass.
Lang pushed the count to 3-0 in the 58 th minute when she found the net from long range, getting the ball past BN sophomore keeper Rachel Campbell.
Hagerty put the hosts on the scoreboard in the 66th minute, but the Columbus North back line was able to prevent the Cougars from any additional scoring threats.
At the JV level, freshman Anna Donica scored three goals to propel the Bull Dogs (7-3-0) to a 4-0 triumph. Junior Alicia Morales added the other goal, while juniors Ella Furber and Layla Terry split the shutout in the nets.
Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 19) when it hosts Terre Haute North in a Conference Indiana contest. The JV game begins at 2 p.m., and the varsity follows at about 3:30 p.m. The Bull Dogs follow by traveling to Bloomington South for another CI encounter next Monday (Sept. 21).
