No. 13 Bull Dogs knock off No. 25 Bloomington South 4-1 in key Conference Indiana boys tennis match

                BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Nathan Lin, junior Matthew Liu and senior Joseph Kloepfer swept the singles matches on Tuesday (Sept. 15), leading the Columbus North boys tennis team to a 4-1 victory at Bloomington South.

                The tandem of senior Luke Enneking and junior Eric Stavnheim also prevailed for the No. 13 Bull Dogs, who improved to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in Conference Indiana matches.

                The No. 25 Panthers dropped to 7-3 overall and completed conference play at 3-2.

                Lin gave Columbus North its first point, posting a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Bloomington South sophomore Michael Asplund at No. 1 singles. Enneking and Stavnheim gave CN a 2-0 lead when they teamed to defeat Panthers senior Sahil Desai and freshman Evan Kantor 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Kloepfer provided the decisive point for the Bull Dogs when he topped Bloomington South senior John Beggs 6-1, 6-4.

                Seniors Marcel Borhi and Ethan Uhls put the Panthers on the board when they outlasted CN freshmen Anvay Atram and Amrit Kar 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Columbus North junior Matthew Liu closed the match with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Bloomington South sophomore Chris Lian at No. 2 singles.

                The Bull Dogs can clinch an outright CI championship if they beat Bloomington North on Thursday, Sept. 24. Columbus North is seeking its second consecutive league title and its fourth in 24 seasons of Conference Indiana play. CN previously captured CI crowns in 2008, 2013 and 2019.

                At the JV level, the Bull Dogs claimed a 5-0 decision to improve to 8-1.

                Columbus North returns to action at 10 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 19) when it hosts Floyd Central. The Bull Dogs follow by hosting No. 27 Jeffersonville at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday (Sept. 22) in a recently added match.
