COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Sarah Bennett and seniors Madi Roop and Madison White provided a balanced, three-pronged attack Tuesday evening (Sept. 15), leading the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Franklin Central in Memorial Gym.
Bennett and Roop each produced 12 kills, while White notched 11 kills as the host Bull Dogs improved to 5-9 for the season with the 29-27, 25-20, 15-25, 25-18 decision. The result also avenged a 2-1 setback to the Flashes on Aug. 22 in the Franklin Central Invitational.
The Flashes dropped to 7-10 for the season.
Sophomore Logan Branstetter added eight kills for the winners, while White contributed seven block solos and Bennett chipped in three block solos. Roop and junior Sydney Cooper each tallied two service aces and junior Reagan Kane totaled 38 assists in setting the offense.
Junior Grace Chapman paced the back-row defense with 29 digs. Kane added 24 digs, and senior Ava McKinney had 18 digs.
Franklin Central swept both sub-varsity matches. The Flashes took a 25-19, 25-22 decision at the JV level. In the freshman match, the visitors prevailed 25-12, 25-16. The Bull Dogs’ JV fell to 1-6, and the Columbus North freshman team dropped to 0-4.
The Columbus North varsity returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 19) when it competes in the Ultra Ankle Challenge at New Albany. In pool play, the Bull Dogs will face Jasper at 10 a.m., host New Albany at 11 a.m. and Jeffersonville at 1 p.m. In a placement-round match, CN will play either Brownstown Central, Castle, Floyd Central or Silver Creek.
The Bull Dogs’ JV returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 19) in the Roncalli Invitational. CN faces host Roncalli at 9 a.m., Brownstown Central at 10 a.m. and Seymour at 11 a.m. in the four-team, round-robin event.
The Columbus North freshman team has just one remaining match, on Oct. 1 against Columbus East.
The Bull Dogs were to host Jennings County in a varsity-JV doubleheader on Thursday (Sept. 17), but that match has been canceled. It will not be rescheduled.
