Eight Columbus North athletes have been chosen as Academic All-State in cross country for 2020 by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.
Those selected IATCCC first-team Academic All-State are juniors Evan Carr, Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff and Wil Littrell from the Bull Dog boys’ team as well as juniors Abby Jacobi and Katherine Rumsey from the Columbus North girls’ team.
Those recognized as IATCCC honorable mention Academic All-State are junior Will Kiel from the Bull Dog boys as well as seniors Mackenzie Barnett and Arek Tong from the Columbus North girls.
Rick Sluder, coach of the Columbus North girls, expressed pride in how these student-athletes have fared in the classroom.
“Their performance in the classroom is even more impressive than their contributions on the course,” he said. “The fact that these girls can excel in both arenas is truly amazing.”
To qualify for consideration for these awards, an athlete must be a junior or senior with a grade-point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. In addition, seniors must have a 1200 or better on the math and reading portions of the SAT or a composite score of 26 or better on the ACT. A junior must meet the same test score requirements or have an 1140 or better on the math and reading sections of the PSAT.
