Columbus boys place ninth, girls 12th in championship divisions of national cross country meet

                TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Junior Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff placed 47th individually on Sunday (Nov. 15), leading the Columbus Thorn club program to a ninth-place finish in the boys’ championship division of the XC Town Meet of Champions national cross country meet.

                Senior Mackenzie Barnett finished 50th individually in keying the Columbus Thorn squad to a 12th-place standing in the girls’ championship division.

                The Columbus Thorn club program is comprised of athletes from Columbus North High School.

                In the boys’ championship race, Kilbarger-Stumpff was timed in 16 minutes, 4.4 seconds over the 5,000-meter layout at the LaVern Gibson Course. He was supported by senior Andy Stohr (56th in 16:12.4), junior Evan Carr (99th in 16:41.6), junior Will Kiel (112th in 17:00.2), senior Collin Pruitt (129th in 17:18.5), sophomore Sam Hobbeheydar (131st in 17:20.5) and senior Austin Pulkowski (139th in 17:29.6).

                In the girls’ championship division, Barnett led the Columbus squad in 18:50.4. Adding to the effort were sophomore Lily Baker (88th in 19:22.6), junior Katherine Rumsey (109th in 19:51.4), sophomore Julie Klaus (118th in 20:09.9), sophomore Alyssa Green (126th in 20:30.7) and sophomore Jessica Meza (133rd in 21:00.1).

                In the boys’ open division, CN sophomore Clayton Guthrie placed 142nd in 17:42.8 while leading Columbus Thorn to a 14th-place finish. In the boys’ freshman division, Adam Reckers was fourth in 18:37.3 as Columbus Thorn was second as a team.

                In the girls’ open division, junior Nicole Meza placed 177th in 22:39.9 to lead four Columbus runners to an incomplete score.

                The XC Town USA Meet of Champions was presented by the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation.
