Balanced Bull Dogs double up New Albany 82-41 to celebrate girls basketball Senior Night

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Kylah Lawson scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures Friday evening (Nov. 20), leading the Columbus North girls basketball team to an 82-41 victory over New Albany in Memorial Gym.

                Sophomore Lauren Barker contributed 16 points, while senior Alexa McKinley provided 15 points and senior Madison White added 14 points as the host Bull Dogs improved to 3-1 while celebrating Senior Night and “Coaches vs. Cancer” Night.

                Sophomore Emma Long chipped in seven points and senior Emily Herndon netted six points for the home team. Freshman Greta Brown scored four points, while junior Andrea Justis tallied two points and senior Kanon Matsuno had one point.

                Junior Vanessa Burns paced the visiting Bulldogs (1-3) with 12 points. Sophomores Journey Howard and Alaina Walker each added nine points, and junior Taylor Treat had eight points for the visitors.

                McKinley and White each scored six points and Lawson netted four points as Columbus North jumped to a 24-8 lead in the first quarter. Lawson and Barker tallied six points apiece and White had five points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs pushed the count to 45-22 at intermission.

                Barker and McKinley each scored five points and Long tallied four points in the third period as CN made it 62-27 at the third stop. Lawson scored seven points, while Herndon and Brown each scored four points in the final quarter as Columbus North closed out the decision.

                In the JV game, freshman Kathryn Wilson scored 12 points and freshman Elise Preston provided nine points as the host Bull Dogs rolled to a 62-10 triumph. Sophomore Rylie Boezeman added eight points, while sophomore Moana Steele and freshman Kaitlin White each chipped in six points for CN (3-0). Freshman Ali Jones scored eight points and junior Shalandria White had two points for New Albany.

                Between the JV and varsity games, Herndon, Matsuno, McKinley, White and senior managers Alana Cook and Annaleigh Matzar were recognized in a brief ceremony for them and their parents. There also were a variety of pregame items for the “Coaches vs. Cancer” event, as coordinated by CN senior Luke Bless for his Senior Project.

                Columbus North returns to action next Saturday (Nov. 28) when it competes in the Wildcat Classic at Lawrence North with two varsity and two JV games. The varsity faces Lawrence North at 11 a.m., and the JV plays Lawrence North at 2:15 p.m. The JV meets Castle at 3:45 p.m., and the varsity squares off against Castle at 5:30 p.m.

                The CN varsity and JV games that originally were scheduled for Tuesday (Nov. 24) have been postponed to Tuesday, Dec. 1. The Columbus North-Franklin Central freshman game still will be played at 6 p.m. Nov. 24 in the CNHS Auxiliary Gym.
