Wheeler, Jiles place second and third in Bloomington North Diving Invitational; Alderfer places seventh for CN girls

                BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Cole Wheeler and senior Kyan Jiles posted respective second- and third-place finishes Saturday (Jan. 9) in the Bloomington North Diving Invitational.

                Wheeler totaled 373.80 points over 11 dives to finish 13.60 points behind Greenfield-Central sophomore Alex Jahrsdoerfer, the winner of the boys’ competition with 387.40 points. Jiles placed third with 369.10 points in the event contested at Bloomington South because of ongoing renovations in the Bloomington North facility.

                Senior DeShawn Austin gave the CN boys a third athlete in the top five. He finished fifth with 348.05 points. Freshman Brock Smith placed 10th with 155.45 points for the Bull Frogs.

                In the girls’ competition, sophomore Helen Alderfer paced the Columbus North contingent by placing seventh with 268.50 points. Other Bull Frogs included junior Emily Martin, 10th with 209.80 points; sophomore Claire Bugert, 11th with 203.35 points; and sophomore Hailey Hardin, 14th with 156.20 points.

                Columbus East freshman Gabbie Meyer captured the girls’ blue ribbon with 368.25 points.

                Columbus North returns to action with swimmers and divers next Saturday (Jan. 16) when they compete in the Conference Indiana “virtual” meet. For the event, Columbus North will visit Southport, Bloomington North will visit Bloomington North and Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South will swim in the Terre Haute Aquatic Center all on that day. The results from the three two-team gatherings will be merged into one set of results to determine the six-team conference placements.
