McKinley named Associated Press honorable mention All-State in girls basketball

Columbus North senior Alexa McKinley received honorable mention recognition on the Associated Press’ Indiana All-State girls basketball squad for the 2020-21 season released on Friday (March 27).

McKinley, a 5-8 guard, averaged 11.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 rebounds in leading the Bull Dogs to a 13-6 season that included an undefeated Conference Indiana championship at 5-0. In addition, the Olivet Nazarene University recruit shot a team-best 88.2 percent on free throws, the second-best season accuracy in program history. She also converted 41.4 percent on all field goal attempts, including 45.1 percent on 3-point shots.

Earlier, McKinley was selected first-team all-Conference Indiana for the third consecutive season, first-team ICGSA All-State for the second consecutive season and IBCA/Franciscan Heath Senior honorable mention All-State. She also was voted HBCA all-District 3, selected to play in the HBCA East-West All-Star Classic on April 25 at Barr-Reeve High School and picked to participate in Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s Top 60 Senior Workout.

In four seasons at Columbus North, McKinley totaled 848 points, 301 rebounds, 263 assists and 130 steals in 93 career varsity games. For her career, she shot 40.5 percent from the field (248-of-612), 35.9 percent on 3-pointers (65-of-181) and 79.3 percent on free throws (287-of-362). Her career assist total is sixth on the CNHS all-time list and her senior season 3-point accuracy is the fifth-best in program annals.

The AP All-State Team recognizes three groups of five players apiece regardless of school size or a player's year in school as first team, second team and third team. The AP also recognizes a group of players as "high honorable mention" as well as one other group as "honorable mention."
