June 4, 2021 - Columbus North has an individual State Champion, and State Runner-up, and a seventh place team finish in the Boys State Track and Field Championships held at Ben Davis High School.
Junior Tucker Smith has dominated the Shot Put event all season long, and continued his dominance in the State Championship. Smith’s first five throws were the five longest throws of the entire championship, and all would have broken the existing meet record. It was Smith’s first toss, 67-11.25 that ensured his state title and put him in the state meet record books. Smith already owns the all-time state best throw of 69-08.5, set earlier this season. Smith also qualified in the Discus. His 155-01 was good enough for twelfth place, but did not qualify him for the finals.
Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff finished second in the 1600m with a time of 4:07.31, just .47 seconds behind State Champion Camden Marshall of Corydon Central. Kilbarger-Stumpff had also qualified for the State Championships in the 800m but scratched that event.
The 4x800m relay (Kellen Hottell, William Russell, Clayton Guthrie, and Andy Stohr) finished 19th in 8:15.64. The Champion 4x800m relay team was Fishers in a time of 7:42.46.
Austin Pulkowski finished 22nd in the 3200m with a time of 9:59.39. The 3200m was won by Will Jefferson of Whiteland Community in a time of 8:45.05.
The team finished tied for seventh with 18 points. Carmel High School was crowned State Champions with 68 points, followed by Brownsburg (40), Center Grove (38), Fishers (32), West Lafayette Harrison and Warren Central (24). CN tied for seventh with Boonville and Plainfield.
