June 5, 2021 - The Columbus North softball team has one of the premier pitchers in the state of Indiana in sophomore Maddi Rutan. Unfortunately for the Bull Dogs, so did the second-ranked Roncalli Royals. Sophomore Keagan Rothrock lived up to her billing, holding the high-powered Bull Dog offense to just two hits and no runs as Roncalli knocked out the Dogs 4-0 in the Semi-state semi finals at Center Grove High School.
Roncalli’s Rothrock struck out 15 batters and walked none en route to the victory. Leadoff hitter Josie Lemmons had both hits for the Bull Dogs and she stole three bases for the game. Unfortunately for the Dogs, they couldn’t find a way to get any runs across the plate and onto the scoreboard. Columbus North threatened in the first inning, but a double play with a runner on third ended the inning.
Rutan once again started for the Bull Dogs. She pitched four innings and gave up four runs (two of them earned) on six hits. She walked one and struck out two. Meghan Waggoner came on in relief in the fifth inning. She gave up three three hits in two innings of work, but didn’t allow any runs while striking out one and walking one.
The Bull Dogs finish the season 25-5, Conference Indiana Champions, Shelbyville Sectional Champions, and Center Grove Regional Champions. Congratulations to Coach Ron McDonald and his Bull Dog softball team on an historic season.
