Dogs softball team finish Conference Indiana season 4-1 with loss to Bloomington South

May 10, 2022 - The Bull Dogs softball team won their first five games of the season before dropping their first game.  They then won five more games in a row and dropped one.  Coming into Tuesday’s Conference Indiana title game against Bloomington South (14-3, 4-0), the Dogs had once again won five consecutive games.  Unfortunately for the Bull Dogs, the pattern continued as they fell 5-1, giving the Panthers the Conference Indiana title.

North (15-3, 4-1) held the Panthers to just three hits for the game, but a costly error, followed by a two-run home run gave the visitors the only runs they needed as they held the Bull Dogs scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Dogs tried to mount a comeback with their first trip across home plate.  The rally fell short and the Dogs dropped just their third game of the season.

Maddi Rutan pitched all seven innings, giving up three earned runs on only three hits while striking out 17 Panthers.  Unfortunately, all three hits allowed by Rutan were home runs, including two from South’s clean-up hitter.

The Dogs were only able to muster four singles, one each by Kelsey Lovelace, Kiersten Danford, Bailey King (who score North’s only run), and Taylor Hadley.

Columbus North will try to bounce back on Wednesday evening when they host Greensburg at the Southside diamonds.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
