Dogs hold on for 3-2 victory over Bloomington South on Senior Night

May 11, 2022 - Bloomington South came to the Southside diamonds with an undefeated 4-0 Conference Indiana record and a chance to clinch the conference title.  They left with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Bull Dogs, who improved to 3-0 in the conference and 15-3-2 overall.

It certainly wasn’t a lack of quality pitching that hurt the Panthers.  The Dogs were held to just a single hit (a line drive single by Luke Harmon that started a two-out rally for the Dogs in the second inning), but a costly error by South sealed their fate.  Dillon James hit a chopper to the South third baseman with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second, but an errant throw to first base allowed all three base runners to cross the plate, giving the Bull Dogs three unearned runs and a 3-0 lead.  The Panthers threatened with a pair of two-out runs in the top of the sixth inning, but a solid closing effort by Zach Wager slammed the door on the Panther rally and secured the 3-2 Bull Dog victory.

Luke Harmon pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs and striking out five for the victory.  Wager was credited with the save.

Five Bull Dog seniors were recognized prior to the game this evening, including a ceremonial first pitch thrown to each senior by a parent of the player’s choice.

The JV team fell to 4-10-1 with a 5-3 loss at Bloomington South on Wednesday (May 11).

The Dogs will host Bloomington North Thursday to finish a game that was called due to darkness earlier this season.  They will pick up where they left off in the top of the eighth inning with the game tied 1-1.  No runners on, with no one out.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
