Howard-Bass scores 13 points, but North girls top South 107-96 in North-South Indiana All-Star Classic; South boys win 135-133

                LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Columbus North senior Maliah Howard-Bass scored 13 points Sunday (April 9), but her South girls dropped a 107-96 decision in the North-South Indiana All-Star Classic in the Berry Bowl.

                The event featured top senior girls and boys from across the state in a doubleheader format.

                Gary West’s Dana Evans, a McDonald’s All-American headed to the University of Louisville, scored 16 of her game-high 25 points in the first half as the North girls took a 51-49 edge. North Central’s Ajanae Thomas added 12 of her 18 points before the break for the North.

                Homestead’s Karissa McLaughlin took over in the second half. The Purdue commit sank five 3-pointers after intermission for 15 of her 20 points. Tippecanoe Valley’s Anne Secrest scored eight of her 10 points in the second half for the North.

                The North finished with 14 3-point goals in the game.

                New Albany’s Chyna Anthony netted a team-high 16 points for the South. Greenfield-Central’s Madison Wise contributed 15 points, while Howard-Bass and Lawrence North’s Destiny Perkins each provided 13 points.

                Howard-Bass scored six points in the first half and seven points in the second half for the South.

                In the boys’ game, Lebanon’s Trevor Lakes scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first half as the South edged the North 135-133. The North had a late chance for a decisive shot, but Marion’s Tim Leavell was forced into an off-balance attempt that would not fall.

                Michael Ertel of Mt. Vernon (Fortville) and Teyon Scanlon of Indianapolis Attucks each chipped in 17 points for the South, which hit 27 3-point goals and saw nine of its 10 players reach double figures. Carmel’s Sterling Brown added 16 points, Terre Haute South’s Jaylen Minnett had 15 points, and New Albany’s Isaac Hibbard, Lafayette Jeff’s David Hanyard and Pendleton Heights’ Mark Albers tallied 13 points apiece. Northeastern’s Tyler Smith had 10 points.

                North Central’s Kris Wilkes, a UCLA signee, poured in game-high 30 points for the North. Logansport’s Matt Jennings and Maconaquah’s Wyatt Hughes each netted 17 points. Leavell and Logansport’s Jalen Adaway had 12 points apiece, and Crown Point’s Sasha Stefanovic and Warren Central’s Mack Smith each had 10 points.
