Borger scores 25 points as Bull Dogs top Columbus East 57-54 in girls basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Jenna Borger scored 18 of her career-high 25 points in the first half Thursday evening (Dec. 14) to spark the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 57-54 victory over rival Columbus East in Memorial Gym.

                Senior Liz Tynan chipped in 11 points and sophomore Tessa Lomax netted eight points for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 8-2 for the season. Junior Nadia Lomax contributed six points, while senior Kenzie Patberg scored four points and sophomore Annie Anderson had three point for CN.

                Senior Addy Galarno provided a team-high 19 points and senior Kristen Lyons had 13 points for the Olympians (7-2). Sophomore Kaitlyn Dougherty scored eight points, while junior Claire Cunningham and sophomore Whitley Rankin each had six points for the visitors.

                Borger scored 11 points in the first quarter, including a late jumper, to give Columbus North a 16-15 edge at the first stop. Borger added seven points in the second quarter while Dougherty countered with five for the Olympians as the teams were tied 27-27 at intermission.

                A Tynan 3-pointer and an Anderson jumper opened the third quarter, and Tynan hit two more 3s in the period as the Bull Dogs took a 44-38 advantage in the final stanza. CN sank 13-of-14 free throws over the last eight minutes to close out the decision.

                Columbus North also prevailed in both sub-varsity contests.

                In the JV game, freshman Alexa McKinley dropped in 17 points and classmate Kanon Matsuno tallied 14 points as the Bull Dogs (9-1) posted a 61-36 triumph. Freshman Madison White chipped in nine points, and classmate Hannah Bramlett had six points. Junior Bre Burton scored nine points to pace the Olympians.

                At the freshman level, Aden Voss and Emily Herndon each scored nine points to key Columbus North to a 31-22 victory. Laney Moore provided seven points, while Alana Cook netted four points and Caroline West had two points for the Bull Dogs (6-1). Abby Miller tallied nine points and Chloe Miller had eight points for Columbus East.

                Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 19) when it hosts Indianapolis Attucks in a doubleheader on “Northside Middle School Night.” The JV game is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the varsity follows at about 7:30 p.m.
