Columbus North beats Perry Meridian 53-45 in girls basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Jenna Borger scored 11 points and classmate Kenzie Patberg contributed 10 points Saturday (Jan. 6) to lead the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 53-45 victory over Perry Meridian in Memorial Gym.

                Sophomore Annie Anderson and junior Nadia Lomax each added eight points for the Bull Dogs, who improved 13-4 overall and 5-0 in Conference Indiana games. Freshman Alexa McKinley added six points, and senior Liz Tynan had five points in a contest where 47 fouls were called and four players fouled out.

                Senior Sadie Hill scored a game-high 14 points for the Falcons (6-11, 4-1). Junior Caitie Baird and junior Ariana Booker each netted 11 points for the visitors.

                Nadia Lomax scored three points and four others tallied two points in the first quarter as Columbus North took a 12-6 lead. Kenzie Patberg scored five points and Anderson four in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs led 28-21 at intermission.

                The Falcons tied the game early in the third quarter, but Borger countered with five points and four others had two apiece as CN led 41-31 at the third stop. Tynan and Nadia Lomax each scored three points in the fourth quarter as the Bull Dogs closed out the decision.

                CN went 21-of-27 on free throws, while Perry was 16-of-22 from the line.

                In the JV game, sophomore Kaylyn Bates scored 20 points to lead the Bull Dogs to a 59-16 decision. Sophomore Sierra Norman chipped in nine points, and classmate Riley Eder added seven points for CN (13-1). Freshmen Kanon Matsuno and Hannah Bramlett each tallied six points. Junior Molly Armstrong led the Falcons with five points.

                There was no freshman game.

                Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 9) when it hosts Franklin in a varsity-JV doubleheader on Saint Bartholomew Night. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow at 7:30 p.m. The CN freshman team will face Batesville at 6 p.m. the same night in the Auxiliary Gym.
