Borger, Bull Dogs top Roncalli 47-37 on girls basketball Senior Night

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Jenna Borger scored 14 points Thursday evening (Jan. 25) to spark the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 47-37 victory over Roncalli on Senior Night in Memorial Gym.

                Senior Kenzie Patberg and sophomore Tessa Lomax each chipped in seven points for the Bull Dogs, who closed their regular season with a 17-6 record. Senior Kelsey Patberg and junior Nadia Lomax contributed six points apiece for CN.

                Sophomore Alana Vinson tallied 14 points and senior Lauren Fey had eight points for the Rebels (12-11).

                Tessa Lomax scored five points and Nadia Lomax netted four points in the first quarter as CN took a 15-10 lead. Borger and sophomore Annie Anderson each scored four points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs pushed their edge to 28-21 at intermission.

                Borger scored five points but Vinson countered with six points in the third quarter as Roncalli drew within 35-29 at the third stop. The visitors cut their deficit to two points in the fourth quarter, but senior Liz Tynan converted a layin and Borger and Kelsey Patberg hit respective 3-pointers to extend the lead as the Bull Dogs closed out the decision.

                At the JV level, freshman Hannah Bramlett scored a game-high 14 points as Columbus North rallied for a 52-44 triumph. Sophomore Kaylyn Bates added 12 points, freshman Alexa McKinley tallied 11 points and sophomore Sierra Norman had 10 points for the Bull Dogs (19-1). Sophomore Mary Rose Roesener led Roncalli with 12 points.

                There was no freshman game.

                Columbus North returns to action at 6 p.m. next Friday (Feb. 2) when it faces either Columbus East or Shelbyville in the semifinals of the East Central Sectional. The Olympians and Golden Bears play at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 30) in a first-round game. The other first-round game features Bloomington South and East Central, with that winner playing Bloomington North in the second semifinal on Friday.

                The semifinal winners meet for the sectional championship at 7 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 3).
