Heritage Christian rallies past Columbus North 50-46 in girls basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Ariana Wiggins scored 17 points and junior Sydney Watkins added 15 points Tuesday evening (Nov. 27) to lead the Heritage Christian girls basketball team to a 50-46 victory over Columbus North in Memorial Gym.

                Senior Madison Ferguson contributed nine points and sophomore Tyranny Brown had seven points for the Eagles, who rallied from a 41-32 deficit at the end of three quarters to improve to 3-3.

                Sophomore Alexa McKinley scored 10 points and junior Sierra Norman tallied nine points for the Bull Dogs, who dropped to 3-3. Junior Annie Anderson provided eight points, while junior Tessa Lomax and freshman Kylah Lawson each netted six points.

                Norman scored four points and sophomore Madison White had three points in the third quarter when CN overcame a 29-28 halftime deficit to take a lead entering the final period.

                However, Watkins scored eight points and Wiggins added five points in the final period as the Eagles surged to regain the lead. Watkins hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final seconds to clinch the outcome.

                In the JV game, sophomore Kanon Matsuno scored 11 points while White and junior Riley Eder each chipped in 10 points as Columbus North prevailed 62-32. Sophomores Hannah Bramlett and Emily Herndon each added nine points for the Bull Dogs (5-1). Junior Grace Wynja led Heritage Christian with nine points.

                The Columbus North varsity and JV returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 1) when it visits Terre Haute South for a Conference Indiana encounter. There will be no freshman game that day.

                The CN freshman team hosts Madison at 6 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 29) in the Auxiliary Gym.

                The varsity and JV have home games on Tuesday (Dec. 4) against Greenwood for EBL Night and Cheer Fund Night. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows at about 7:30 p.m. Players and coaches from the 11 Elementary Basketball League teams will be recognized at halftime of the varsity game, while fans are asked to bring new or gently used toys, games or books to donate to the Cheer Fund in boxes that will be stationed at the entry areas.
