Columbus North, Mooresville, Martinsville and Center Grove win first-round games in Subway/CN Invitational

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Alexa McKinley scored 14 points on Thursday evening (Dec. 27) to lead the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 46-43 victory over Evansville North in the first-round of the Subway/Columbus North Invitational.

                Junior Annie Anderson and freshman Kylah Lawson each added eight points for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 11-3 and moved into the semifinal round against Mooresville (9-6) at 11:45 a.m. Friday (Dec. 28). Senior Nadia Lomax and junior Sierra Norman each contributed six points for CN.

                Junior Kenna Hisle netted a game-high 19 points for Evansville North (5-8). Junior Gabby Joyner and senior Arieona Garrett each scored seven points for the Lady Huskies.

                In other first-round games, Mooresville defeated East Chicago Central 50-40, Martinsville topped Zionsville 44-31 and Center Grove edged Elkhart Central 52-48 in overtime.

                >> Senior Elise Scaggs scored 15 points and junior Paige Gregory chipped in 10 points to lift Mooresville (9-6) in its game. Senior Tai’Yanna Jackson poured in a game-high 24 points and senior Tiara Jackson had 10 points for East Chicago Central (6-7).

                >> Senior Bethany Mackin tossed in 16 points and sophomore Pa’Shence Walker netted 10 points to propel Martinsville (12-2) over Zionsville. Senior Megan Sheridan paced the Eagles (10-5) with 11 points. Sophomore Katey Richason had six points.

                >> Senior Ella Thompson scored 11 of her game-high 22 points in the last three seconds of regulation and in the overtime to rally Center Grove (12-2) to its victory. Senior Emma Utterback added nine points and freshman Katie Egenolf had five points for the Trojans. Senior Trinitee Harris scored 14 points and sophomore Kaitlyn Costner tallied 10 points for Elkhart Central (12-4).

                The schedule for Friday is this:

                10 a.m. – Evansville North against East Chicago Central and Zionsville against Elkhart Central in consolation semifinal games.

                11:45 a.m. – Columbus North against Mooresville and Martinsville against Center Grove in championship semifinal games.

                3:30 p.m. – Fifth-place and seventh-place games.

                5:15 p.m. – Third-place game.

                7:00 p.m. – Championship game.
