Center Grove tops Mooresville 62-50 for Subway/CN Invitational title; Bull Dogs finish third

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Ella Thompson scored 22 points and sophomore Mary Wilson added 13 points Friday evening (Dec. 28) to lift the Center Grove girls basketball team to a 62-50 victory over Mooresville for the championship of the Subway/Columbus North Invitational.

                Senior Emma Utterback chipped in 12 points and junior Claire Rake provided 11 points as the Trojans improved to 14-2 for the season while claiming the event title for the first time.

                Junior Paige Gregory netted a team-high 20 points for the Pioneers (10-7). Senior Elise Scaggs contributed 18 points and reached 1,000 career points during the game. Senior Lauren Farb had 10 points for Mooresville.

                In the third-place game, senior Nadia Lomax scored 18 points and sophomore Madison White tallied 14 points as Columbus North topped Martinsville 54-47. Sophomore Alexa McKinley added 11 points, and junior Annie Anderson had seven points for the Bull Dogs (12-4). Freshman Ashlyn Traylor scored 11 points and sophomore Pa’Shence Walker provided 10 points for the Artesians (12-4).

                In the fifth-place game, sophomore Katey Richason scored 19 points to lead Zionsville past East Chicago Central 58-40. Senior Megan Sheridan chipped in 14 points and senior Delaney Richason had 11 points for the Eagles (12-5). Senior Tai’Yanna Jackson scored 15 points and senior Tiara Jackson netted 14 points for the Cardinals (7-8).

                In the seventh-place game, sophomore Kaitlyn Costner scored 13 points to lead Elkhart Central over Evansville North 40-29. Senior Ay’Zyana Billings-Tiller contributed 12  points for the Blue Blazers (13-5). Junior Gabby Joyner scored 12 points and junior Kenna Hisle had 11 points for the Lady Huskies (5-10).

                Thompson scored 14 points and Wilson had nine points to propel Center Grove into the title game with a 37-33 semifinal victory over Martinsville. Senior Bethany Mackin scored 11 points and junior Paige Dorsett had nine points for the Artesians.

                Farb tossed in 21 points and Scaggs netted 17 points as Mooresville punched its ticket to the final with a 56-49 decision over Columbus North. McKinley scored 15 points and junior Sierra Norman had 14 points for the Bull Dogs.

                Delaney Richason tallied 18 points while Katey Richason scored 15 points to lift Zionsville over Elkhart Central 53-41 in a consolation semifinal. Senior Trinitee Harris scored 16 points and sophomore Taryn Roberson had 10 points for the Blue Blazers.

                Tai’Yanna Jackson scored 18 points and Tiara Jackson had 12 points as East Chicago Central beat Evansville North 41-36 in the other consolation semifinal. Hisle scored 12 points and Joyner had seven points for the Lady Huskies.

                Ten players were chosen to the all-tournament team. They included:
