McKinley, Nadia Lomax key Columbus North past Jennings County 67-62 in girls basketball

                NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Sophomore Alexa McKinley scored 20 points and senior Nadia Lomax contributed 18 points Thursday evening (Jan. 3) to lead the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 67-62 victory at Jennings County.

                Freshman Kylah Lawson chipped in 10 points, while junior Tessa Lomax provided eight points and junior Annie Anderson had six points as the Bull Dogs improved to 13-4.

                Freshman Lily Ernstes tallied a team-high 20 points for the Panthers, who fell to 8-7. Senior Kylee Matern and sophomore Addyson Kent each netted 17 points for the home team.

                Nadia Lomax scored seven points in the first quarter as Columbus North took a 15-11 lead. McKInley netted nine points and Tessa Lomax had four points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs led 32-27 at intermission.

                Lawson scored four points, while McKinley and  junior Sierra Norman each had three points as CN maintained a 48-44 edge at the third stop. Nadia Lomax scored nine points and McKinley added eight points as the visitors closed out a hard-fought decision over the final eight minutes.

                At the JV level, sophomore Emily Herndon scored 10 points to lead Columbus North to a 44-24 victory. Sophomores Madison White and Hannah Bramlett each chipped in six points for the Bull Dogs (13-1). Freshman Megan Schuler paced the Panthers with seven points.

                There was no freshman game.

                Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 5) when it visits Perry Meridian for a doubleheader. The JV game begins at 1 p.m., and the varsity follows at about 2:30 p.m. There will be no freshman game.

                The CN freshmen are back in action at 5:30 p.m. Monday (Jan. 7) when they visit South Decatur for a stand-alone game.
