Columbus North uses balance to beat Bloomington North 60-47 in girls basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Alexa McKinley scored 11 points Friday evening (Jan. 18) to lead the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 60-47 victory over Bloomington North on Senior Night in Memorial Gym.

                Junior Sierra Norman chipped in nine points while senior Nadia Lomax and sophomore Madison White each contributed eight points as the Bull Dogs improved to 16-4 overall and 4-0 in Conference Indiana. Juniors Annie Anderson and Kaylyn Bates each provided six points, while junior Tessa Lomax and sophomore Kanon Matsuno each had three points.

                Junior Ainsley Urbanski poured in a game-high 28 points for the visiting Cougars (4-16, 0-4). Junior Bentlei Grooms chipped in 10 points, and junior Erin Lillis netted five points.

                McKinley scored five points while Anderson and Nadia Lomax each had four points as Columbus North took at 16-3 lead at the first stop. McKinley and White each netted six points and Norman had five points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs pushed the count to 36-16 at intermission.

                Nadia Lomax tallied four points while Norman and Bates each had three as CN led 51-32 at the third stop. Matsuno scored three points while White, junior Riley Eder and sophomore Hannah Bramlett each had two points in the final period as Columbus North closed the decision.

                Nadia Lomax and senior managers Peyton Fleetwood and Brooke Rice were recognized in a pregame ceremony.

                In the JV game, freshman Andrea Justis scored 10 points to lead the Bull Dogs to a 40-16 triumph. Freshman Sophie Nash added six points, while sophomores Madison White and Hannah Bramlett each netted five points for CN (16-1). Freshman Amya Hayes led Bloomington North with nine points.

                Columbus North is scheduled to play a Conference Indiana tripleheader at Bloomington South on Saturday (Jan. 19). JV and freshman games are scheduled for 1 p.m., and the varsity is to follow the JV at 2:30 p.m. The winner of the varsity game (the Panthers are 17-3 overall and 4-0 in league play) will be the 2018-19 CI champion.
